  1. Take a small group of kids downtown for a “Free Fun Day”; visit the Downtown library, Circle Centre Mall and the Canal at no cost to you!-Try to bring a group that may not have the opportunity otherwise (from your neighborhood, church or your children’s school friends).
  2. Volunteer at Gleaners for one day (you’ll be back!)
  3. Plant a few flowers this spring in the yard or window box of an elderly neighbor.
  4. Clean out your closets and anonymously give your unused treasures to someone you know is in need.
  5. Pick one day a week to consciously smile at every stranger you see (happiness is contagious!)
  6. Pay for someone’s gas.
  7. Offer to help someone with yard work.
  8. Pay for someone’s dinner.
  9. Help someone load groceries into their car.
  10. Give someone flowers
  11. Offer to baby-sit for free for a single parent or family working multiple jobs.
  12. Give someone in need diapers.
  13. Mow your neighbor’s yard.
  14. Offer to drive a shut-in to church or to the store.
  15. Hold the door for a mom with a stroller trying to get in a store or an elderly person.
  16. Volunteer to read to someone at a nursing home.
  17. Have a clothing drive at work to donate to a homeless shelter.
  18. Volunteer with your pet for pet therapy at a nursing home or children’s hospital ward.
  19. Pay for a kid to play in a youth sports league.
  20. Visit a nursing home.
  21. Donate your kid’s old toys to charity.
  22. Buy lunch for an intern.
  23. “Grow an extra row”-If you are planning on planting a garden this year, grow a row to give away.
  24. Talk to your director of your children’s daycare; donate a little extra money to pay for an outing or field trip for a child that may not be able to afford to go.
  25. Buy a little extra at the grocery store every week to give away to your local food bank, church pantry, or neighbor in need.
  26. Donate your outgrown children’s clothing to a friend, neighbor or church pantry instead of selling it.
  27. Let someone go in front of you in the check out line. Especially if you have a cart full and they only have a few items.
  28. Give at least one compliment a day to someone different.
  29. Weed someone’s garden.
  30. Give someone an anonymous bouquet of flowers.
  31. Put a quarter in an expired or close to expired parking meter.
  32. Leave a thank you note for someone who helps you everyday (the postman, secretary at work, etc.)
  33. Dedicate your time by volunteering at a local school or organization.
  34. Be nice and sympathetic to telemarketers!
  35. Bake something for your neighbor for no reason.
  36. Leave an extra gracious tip the next time you eat at a restaurant, even if the service is just average.
  37. Pick up trash you see on the ground.
  38. Pay for the movie tickets for the person behind you.
  39. Volunteer at your local animal shelter.
  40. Share your umbrella with someone who doesn’t have one.
  41. Leave extra change in the vending machine.
  42. Check on an elderly neighbor who has no relatives nearby.
  43. Volunteer to go grocery shopping for a neighbor who can’t get out.
  44. Shovel the walk and drive of an elderly neighbor.
  45. Pick up the tab for the person behind you in the drive thru.
  46. Find someone in need of financial assistance-assist with a light bill, electric bill, mortgage, etc.
  47. Do a fundraiser at school.
  48. Be BIG-sign up to mentor a child through Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
  49. Invited the less fortunate to dinner or a movie.
  50. Go out of your way to help someone you might have wronged in the past.
  51. Pray!
  52. Get together with a group and pick up trash for a stretch of road.
  53. Have a foreign exchange student(s) from a local college over for Easter dinner (or any holiday).
  54. Volunteer at your local elementary school (field trip chaperone, read to 1st graders, etc.)
  55. Take a homeless person out for lunch.
  56. Write a supportive and caring letter to a friend.
  57. Give your kids a hug.
  58. Call your parents and thank them.
  59. Carry extra change on you so you always have something to give to the homeless.
  60. Return your shopping cart and a wayward cart to the corral in the grocery store parking lot.
  61. Deliver a neighbor’s newspaper to their front door.
  62. Volunteer for a position/committee with your church, neighborhood association, kid’s school, etc.
  63. Pay for someone’s lunch on campus (it’s just an extra swipe of your meal plan).
  64. Help a struggling classmate study.
  65. Send a ‘Thank You’ card to your favorite former teacher/professor.
  66. Leave a nice note on your receipt and at least a 15% tip the next time you have great hospitality service while dining.
  67. Give bus fare to someone at a bus stop.
  68. Give the Gift of Life-Donate Blood!
  69. Throw a birthday party for a child whose parents have been laid off.
  70. Pull over to help someone whose vehicle is stranded instead of driving past them.
  71. Send an anonymous gift to your child’s teacher thanking them for their efforts.
  72. Have your kids volunteer with you at a charitable organization.
  73. Put your extra change in the tip jars placed on counters at restaurants and stores.
  74. Carry around a $5-$10 restaurant gift card and hand one out to someone who needs a meal or a pick-me-up.
  75. Say hello to people.
  76. Go to church with your family.
  77. Tell people you work with that they are doing a good job.
  78. Let someone in when you are in traffic.
  79. Always hold the door open for people.
